For project 1 I will be focusing on narrative and the risk of choice.

I took a linear fiction story written by Sydney Lewis and transformed it into an interactive nonlinear story with multiple endings. Depending on the path you decide to take, you get the chance to learn more about a specific character, influencing the decisions you make later on in the story.

A traditional linear story is something that takes you to a different world, an interactive story takes over your world. When making decisions for the characters, you act as their free will. The character you play as switches throughout the story, seeing whats going on in the character’s head.

Some choices lead to immediate changes, some have effects later on in the story. We wrote a segment for each outcome.

I was immediately drawn to this story while reading it. I really enjoy the switch between the character’s perspectives. The different endings were very nice in how each of their answers affected how their relationship kinda started. Also the option for the amount of times you choose not to get coffee and how it would obviously not progress the story of their story.

Hi Lila, really enjoyed the visual effect!

When the perspective changes, the background and the font also change, which makes it more engaging to make the choice!

I like that you designed the click part as italics from the text. It makes it clear to read and separate them, and the text is easy to read.

I also appreciate the try again button to have more ending!

I really like the minimalistic approach on your design here! Simple color change on the background informing the contents are from different character with different perspective and characteristics, really effective!

I do feel like the choices are not very populated since a lot of the pages are only having one option. But i do like the idea of hiding the effect of the choices until later so they cannot be traced back easily and change.

I also get a very strong feeling of reading a text converted from a book, both good and bad. It felt very formal and the writing are great, but sometimes i feel like i am not interacting that much apart from the major choice.

But i love the frequent switching of perspective in the narrative as the player go through each character's mind and try to affect each other's relationship and feeling!

Thank you so much for the feedback! I get what you are saying here. The game to story ration could have been better. Halfway through working on this I realized I would never finish on time unless I stuck to only a handful of choices. But I am really inspired by the other projects in our class and if I give this another go I have a lot to take influence from.

Really great work! Throughout my playthrough, I was able to reach two of the endings. The dynamic of taking over the perspective of the two separate characters made for an interesting experience. I really appreciate the formatting of the page and text between the two characters. Having the unique formatting helped establish a demarcation, and I did not find myself confused when transitioning between passages.
